Africa-Press – Namibia. The Kavango West Regional Council has completed the first phase of a project assessment to improve its future development.
The council is evaluating projects funded by value-added tax and capital investments from the 2023/24 and 2024/25 financial years.
The assessment includes schools constructed by August 26 Holdings across the region’s eight constituencies.
The team, led by chief statistician Milka Nzamene, is visiting project sites to determine if the funds invested are being used effectively.
“The assessment will help officials learn from other constituencies how they are implementing these projects, and how they are actually tackling the issues they are facing,” Nzamene says.
The team, which includes control administrative officers, is hoping the visits would also create opportunities for cross-constituency learning.
One of the sites visited was Naingopo Primary School in the Ncuncuni constituency, where a new two-classroom block built by August 26 Holdings has made a significant impact.
Teacher Roide Nangombe says before the new building, the school’s single, older classroom served as a classroom, office, storeroom, and staff room.
“Now that we have this newly constructed classroom, at least our classrooms are almost enough,” Nangombe says, adding that the new building has made pupils, staff, and the community “very happy”.
The second phase of the assessment is scheduled to take place from 22 to 29 September.
After the visits are complete, the council will receive a detailed report with recommendations for improvement.
