Africa-Press – Namibia. A member of Parliament has been accused of selling portions of a mahangu field belonging to a pensioner in northern Namibia.

The pensioner Wilima Angula (65) is a resident of Epyenene village in the Oshana region.

She is moving from pillar to post, trying to figure out how portions of her mahangu field were sold to a foreign national without her consent.

The MP accused of the dubious transaction is the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters’ deputy commander in chief Kalimbo Iipumbu.

He is the headman of Epyenene village.

Speaking to New Era, Angula narrated that she inherited the land from her mother, who passed away in 2000.

“I was in Windhoek when my neighbour informed me that there were people building on my land,” she said.

She added that when she came to the north, she visited the site and spoke to the builders.

“They said they were contractors but didn’t know how the land was supplied. They handed me the owner’s phone number,” Angula shared.

She then called the supposed buyer, who confirmed that he had bought the land from the headman.

“The following day, I went to the site and told him I wanted to talk to him about the land he had bought because it’s mine,” she said.

Angula said the buyer drove off without engaging her. Iipumbu denied selling the land. “She is lying. The portion of land didn’t belong to her because it’s outside the boundaries of her plot as per the traditional map,” he said.

Meanwhile, the senior headwoman of the Efululula district under Oukwanyama Berta Haufiku said her office has not received any report regarding the matter.

“I will follow up. I urge Angula to bring the matter to my office,” she said.
