Africa-Press – Namibia. The Namibian Arts Association (NAA), in collaboration with Tutu Creative Concepts (TCC), on Wednesday announced the launch of the School Screening Project.

The initiative is aimed at fostering cultural appreciation, creativity and diversity among Namibian learners.

NAA executive manager, Cislé Jacobs, said the project seeks to promote diversity, cultural awareness and inclusivity in education by exposing pupils to locally produced documentaries and creative audiovisual work.

“Learners are expected to gain a deeper understanding of Namibian heritage, traditions and contemporary storytelling, while cultivating pride in their identity and openness to diverse worldviews,” she said in a statement.

The pilot project will begin on 28 August 2025 at the Frans Art Centre in Havana, followed by screenings at five schools in Windhoek, including People’s Primary School and Augustineum Secondary School.

“Pupils will view documentaries directed and co-produced by filmmaker Othilia Tutu Mungoba, including The Weight of Tomorrow (2022), Veraa! (2023) and Beyond the Goalpost (2025).”

Each film highlights Namibia’s cultural heritage and contemporary realities and will be followed by live dialogue sessions with Mungoba, cast members and guest creative professionals, said Jacobs.

She said the initiative supports the association’s mandate to make Namibian creative works accessible to wider audiences, including young people in schools.

“By presenting locally produced content, we aim to strengthen appreciation of Namibian storytelling while also showcasing the important role of our creative industries in cultural and social development,” Jacobs said.

Othilia Tutu Mungoba expounded that the project aims to spark imagination and pride among children, especially those in disadvantaged communities.

The School Screening Project will also expose learners to career opportunities in the creative industries while ensuring access to local stories that shape their perspectives and future aspirations.
