Africa-Press – Namibia. The Omaheke Regional Council (ORC), through the Epukiro constituency office, donated equipment and materials to all schools in this constituency on Thursday.

The donated items worth N$257 000 were acquired as part of the ORC VAT refund programme, aimed at implementing projects identified by the respective constituencies.

Epukiro Constituency councillor Pineal Packy Pakarae handed over the materials during Epukiro Secondary School (ESS)’s prize-giving ceremony.

Leading the beneficiary list was ESS, who received a multi-function printer worth N$108 000. Good Hope Primary School (PS) received service parts of N$13 000 to repair their kitchen equipment, alongside an additional N$22 500 for the construction of a school gate and N$11 000 for a chest freezer still to be acquired. Otjimanangombe-based Morukutu PS received a netball kit and a school flag totalling N$7 500, as well as office chairs worth N$9 000.

A further N$16 000 has been allocated for paint and N$20 000 for construction materials still to be acquired.

Otjijarua’s Morukutu PS received laptops and a projector worth N$34 000, with an additional N$2 650 allocated for printer cartridges, N$7 000 for paint and another N$7 000 for a sound system to be procured.

The financial and material support reaching an overall N$257 456.79 is part of the ORC’s projects aimed at improving local infrastructure and services, empower women and youth, stimulate economic activity and promote sport and physical activity. Among others, projects identified include food security initiatives, micro-businesses, sport clubs, livestock and gardening, as well as educational programmes.

Morukutu PS principal Jona Kalunduka expressed his appreciation for the donations, saying the move by councillor Pakarae was a symbol of his traits and commitment towards education. He added that education should remain a priority to all leaders and stakeholders in the communities.

“This support is not the first. The councillor engaged schools on different platforms. We truly appreciate, and items received will be a direct benefit to teaching and learning,” said the principal.
