Rugby league returns this weekend

Africa-Press – Namibia. The top-flight rugby league will make a comeback this weekend with a lineup of several thrilling games scheduled across various venues nationwide.

Headlining the fixtures is a clash between Grootfontein, currently in fourth position, and Unam, who sit in fifth. Grootfontein, with 10 points, will see this match as an opportunity to further their winning momentum in the league.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Grootfontein coach Wikus Jacobs emphasised that despite Unam trailing them in the standings, they are not underestimating their opponents. He described the upcoming match as unpredictable, but maintained that his team is well-prepared for the encounter.

“I am happy with the current mood in the team. The boys had ample time to rest during the long weekend, and I am sure they are eager to return to the field. We have all our key players available for this encounter, and we eagerly await Saturday to see the outcome,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, Unam coach Desiderius Sethie acknowledged that Saturday’s tie would be a challenging one for his team, but underscored their readiness. “Each team has the potential to secure maximum points; that’s how crucial this match-up is. Grootfontein are a strong side and have performed commendably this season, so we anticipate a very tough encounter.”

“We will approach this match with the same mindset as any other fixture we participate in. Our training sessions this week have been very productive, and the boys have shown excellent spirit and a strong desire to win,” he added.

In other fixtures elsewhere for the weekend, second-placed Kudus will host Khomasdal-based Western Suburbs, while Rehoboth is set to face the in-form Wanderers team, who currently lead the league standings. Additionally, Trustco United will square off against Reho-Falcons.
