Schools reopen nationwide as second semester begins Monday

Africa-Press – Namibia. THOUSANDS of learners countrywide are preparing for their journey back to school after a deserved month-long vacation.

Government school hostels open on Sunday, and the second semester of the current academic year kicks off on Monday.

The Acting Regional Education Director for Oshikoto, Tomas Kalimbo, issued a memorandum to school principals, heads of departments, teachers, and support staff at schools, thanking them for their continued dedication, hard work, and commitment to the learners and school communities.

“The first semester of the year brought both accomplishments and challenges,” he said, “and your efforts and dedication to navigate through the challenges for the sake of our learners have not gone unnoticed.”

He said that some of them sacrificed their well-deserved holidays to go the extra mile on syllabus coverage or to play a supportive role in this endeavor.

“For that, please know that we see you and we appreciate you,” he said.

According to him, the second semester presents new opportunities to reflect, refocus, and continue building upon the achievements of the first semester, as far as molding a Namibian child and achieving excellent academic results for our learners are concerned.

“With your passion and perseverance, I’m confident we will continue to make and keep Oshikoto a region of excellence in providing inclusive, equitable, quality education for all, and in helping our learners to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally,” he said.

Kalimbo urged teachers to review their Semester One assessment results, goals, and targets, as well as to devise and implement targeted interventions to improve the performance of learners and subjects that have underperformed.

“Teamwork, collaboration, and communication remain key to achieving your goals and visions going forward. Let us continue working together, support one another, embrace innovation, and strive for excellence in everything we do, bearing in mind ‘the best interest of the child’,” said Kalimbo.
