YEDC announces week-long power outage across Adamawa, Taraba

Africa-Press – Nigeria. Business activities in Adamawa and Taraba states are expected to slow down next week as the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, prepares for a week-long planned power outage.

In a statement released on Wednesday, YEDC announced that the outage will affect several communities across the two states as the company undertakes major maintenance work.

The power interruption, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, and end on Monday, December 8, 2025, is aimed at improving power infrastructure and strengthening electricity supply in the region.

“The shutdown is necessary to allow MBH Power Contractor to complete rehabilitation and reinforcement work at the 330/132 kV and 132/33 kV transmission station in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) was said to have also confirmed that the project includes connecting a turn-in-turn-out 330 kV line, a development expected to enhance the stability and reliability of the regional power network.

“During the maintenance period, electricity supply from both the Mayo-Belwa and Jalingo transmission stations will be unavailable,” YEDC said.

Communities expected to experience a total blackout include Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, as well as Zing, Lau, Mutum-Biyu, Mayo-Belwa, Jeda, Ganye, and Toungo.

YEDC has advised affected customers to make necessary arrangements ahead of the outage and expressed appreciation for their patience and cooperation.

The company also urged residents to stay vigilant around power installations and report any suspicious activities to ensure a smooth restoration process once the work is completed.
