Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Ayuba Hashimu, has denied reports that a mosque was attacked and an Imam along with worshippers killed.
Hashimu called the reports “false, untrue, and a fabrication by conflict entrepreneurs who thrive on negative narratives to instill fear among residents.”
He said no such incident happened anywhere in the local government.
Aminu Boza, the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, also dismissed the claims, questioning the source and credibility of the report.
Meanwhile, residents of Gatawa village confirmed a separate attack by bandits in their community, which left five people dead.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said the attackers entered the village around 1:30 a.m., shooting randomly and killing four people instantly. Another victim later died from gunshot wounds.
The bandits also kidnapped six people, including two married women, two teenage girls, and two young boys, and stole livestock before fleeing.
Despite an exchange of gunfire with security forces, none of the abducted residents had been rescued at the time of reporting.
