Africa-Press – Nigeria. Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested three men accused of burning down a house in Karim Town, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, was described by the Army as a dangerous attempt to inflame already fragile tensions in the area.

The suspects were named as Bitrus Ishaya and Mamman Ibrahim from Wudumpi, and Emmanuel Adi

Soldiers intercepted them at the scene of the attack moments after the house belonging to a Wurkun resident had been set ablaze.

According to the statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, initial checks showed that Bitrus and Mamman falsely claimed to be members of the Taraba Marshal. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the claims by Bitrus and Mamman to be members of the Taraba Marshal were false, as both men failed to provide any form of official identification,” the release said.

Emmanuel Adi, who said he was a vigilante operative, was also taken in after what officials described as “inconsistent and suspicious statements.”

The military suggested the attack may have been aimed at worsening the tense atmosphere in parts of Karim Lamido. “The act is believed to be a deliberate attempt to exploit the already fragile tensions,” the statement noted, adding that the quick response by troops prevented the situation from escalating into a broader conflict.

The suspects are being held as investigations continue to verify their identities and determine whether they have links to criminal elements operating under the guise of local security outfits.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for acting swiftly. “Anyone attempting to ignite violence, destabilise communities, or fuel communal tensions will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” he warned.

He appealed to residents to support the ongoing peace efforts, saying, “We urge the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue reporting suspicious movements or activities.”
