Africa-Press – Nigeria. Former Nigeria U23 goalkeeper, Emmanuel Babayaro, has slammed those criticising the performance of Alex Iwobi.

He believes the Fulham midfielder is one of the main men in Eric Chelle’s squad but is not respected enough.

Babayaro said he has heard many nasty things about the midfielder, insisting it should not be so. He noted that the England born former Arsenal star was the man of the match in Super Eagles last game against Tanzania.

Iwobi’s commitment to the National team has been heavily criticised by the Super Eagles fanbase and some pundits.

Babayaro told ATHLST podcast, “I have heard so many nasty things about this particular young man, talking about Iwobi. I was fascinated.

“In my book, in my opinion, he was my Man of the Match [against Tanzania]. I think Semi Ajayi was also worth it, but it was just that goal that gave that to him.

“Iwobi was the engine in that particular team, so I think that man has not been dealt with fairly in my opinion.”
