Africa-Press – Rwanda. AS Muhanga have tasked new head coach Moussa Gatera to help the team maintain topflight football status as the 2025/26 season nears.

Gatera left Rutsiro FC to join AS Muhanga as new head coach on a two-year deal running until 2027.

He led his first training session with 13 players on Thursday, July 10, as club starts preparations for the new season.

“I have been given the responsibility to keep the team in the first division, and we are ready to do everything possible to ensure we achieve it,” the former Gorilla FC coach said.

“We started with only 13 players, but next week we will have almost everyone in the squad back. This is a team we are building from scratch, because we have some players from the second division who need are going to play at a higher level. That is why we need players who can compete at that level.”

As part of preparations for the new season, AS Muhanga will play three pre-season friendly matches, one with Mukura Victory Sports, and two more against teams from Kigali.

Gatera previously coached Sunrise FC, Isonga FC, Gorilla FC, Espoir and Rayon Sports FC as an assistant coach. He also coached Rwanda U17 team.
