Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Gasabo Primary Court is set to arraign Pastor Joseph Harerimana, popularly known as ‘Apostle Yongwe,’ on charges related to the abuse of trust, according to a dossier that was submitted to court by the prosecution.

Though the hearing date is yet to be determined, the National Public Prosecution Authority spokesperson, Faustin Nkusi, confirmed that the case was formally filed in court on October 15, paving the way for the suspect’s arraignment.

Harerimana’s recent arrest on October 1 and subsequent detention at the Kimihurura RIB station were prompted by a string of allegations from his congregation.

A widely circulated social media video captured Yongwe urging his followers to make offerings in exchange for various favors, including visas, career advancements, and marital partners.

The situation prompted a swift response from RIB Secretary General Jeannot Ruhunga, who, during a recent press conference on national security, cautioned against the exploitation of individuals through deceptive religious practices.

He firmly asserted that taking advantage of vulnerable individuals through such means was not tolerated under the country’s legal framework and emphasized the gravity of such actions as fraudulent and punishable offenses.

Upon conviction, the accused faces the possibility of imprisonment ranging from three to five years, accompanied by a fine ranging from Rwf 500,000 to Rwf 1 million.
