Africa-Press – Rwanda. The 13th battalion of Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Appreciation by President Faustin Touadéra.

The medal was presented on Wednesday, July 30, at the Presidential Palace in Bangui, in an event that was attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to CAR, Olivier Kayumba, Central African Republic Armed Forces (FACA) Chief of Defence Staff, and other officials.

According to a statement by Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), the award recognises the Rwandan peacekeepers’ “commitment, courage, and professionalism during their tour of duty while conducting peace support operations and protecting civilians in CAR.”

“The award of medals signifies recognition of the battalion’s discipline, professionalism, and exemplary conduct in executing UN-mandated tasks,” the statement reads.

During their mission, RWABATT-13 has been actively engaged in securing key installations, escorting humanitarian convoys, protecting civilians, and supporting stabilisation operations in conflict-affected zones.

In his address to the troops, President Touadéra commended the Rwandan contingent for their unwavering dedication, tactical competence, and courage under challenging operational environments. He extended his gratitude to the government of Rwanda and RDF for their continued contribution to regional peacekeeping initiatives.

Lieutenant Colonel Alphonse Kigenza, the commanding officer of RWABATT-13, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the President of the Central African Republic and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for his foresight and unwavering guidance, as well as support during their stay in Bangui, which, he said, greatly contributed to the success of their mission.

Kigenza also thanked members of CAR’s government and military, with whom the Rwandan force enjoyed collaboration throughout the mission in the country.
