APR FC 2-1 Etincelles
APR FC moved to within four points of the Rwanda Premier League summit following a 2-1 victory over Etincelles on Wednesday at Kigali Pele Stadium.
Returning from injury, forward Djibril Ouattara marked his comeback with a goal, while Mamadou Sy delivered a man-of-the-match performance with a goal and an assist.
The Mauritanian striker opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing off a well-worked move before turning provider just before halftime, setting up Ouattara in the 45+1 minute to double APR’s advantage.
Etincelles responded immediately after the break through Gedeon Ndonga, who struck in the 48th minute to revive hopes of a comeback.
The visitors applied sustained pressure as Manace Mutatu, Sadjati Niyonkuru, Ibrahim Kasapu, and Hamad Tuyisenge all came close to leveling matters. However, goalkeeper Pierre Ishimwe produced a couple of key saves to preserve the army side’s lead and avoid a late scare.
The loss extended Etincelles’ winless run to nine matches—seven draws and two defeats—leaving the Rubavu-based side still searching for their first victory of the season. They return to Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday for another away clash against Kiyovu SC.
APR will next face league leaders Police FC on Saturday, December 6, also at Kigali Pele Stadium.
