Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR Women Volleyball Club were off to a perfect start to the 2025 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, as they came from a set down to beat Tunisian giants Club Féminin de Carthage (CFC) in four sets 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22) in Group A opening match held at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday, April 3.

CFC, who won the tournament twice, secured the first set 18-25 before APR regrouped, with setter Diane Mpuhwezimana and receiving hitter Lizzy Gasekgonwe leading the squad to fight back and claim the second set 26-24 and third set 25-23.

The decisive set saw both teams go head-to-head in an intense battle. CFC were leading 19-18 the set but APR capitalized on the Tunisians’ mistakes to secure their first game, ending the set 25-22.

“Winning means a lot for us, we started the first set badly but we changed and corrected our mistakes,” said captain Valentine Munezero.

The Women’s African Volleyball Club matchup continues on Friday, April 5, where Police WVC will face Kenya Pipeline at 6 pm.
