AS Douanes’ Alkaly Ndour to receive 2024 BAL Ubuntu Trophy

Africa-Press – Rwanda. AS Douanes’ guard and captain Alkaly Ndour will Saturday, May 25, be presented with the 2024 BAL Ubuntu Trophy during an on-court ceremony at BK Arena before the club’s seeding game against Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers.

The Ubuntu Trophy recognizes the player who has made an outstanding effort and impact in the community during the BAL season. It will be awarded to Ndour in recognition of his ongoing efforts to use the game of basketball to positively impact the lives of youth in his native country Senegal.

Ndour, 27, is the founder of a basketball tournament organized regularly in his neighbourhood of Bopp in Dakar, targeting close to 250 amateur basketball players.

He also organizes basketball camps for youth in his community and acts of kindness towards the unemployed. In addition to promoting basketball, this event aims to raise awareness among participants about community engagement and building a culture of peace.

During the 2024 BAL regular season, Ndour played in all six games against APR of Rwanda, Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria) and US Monastir (Tunisia) and helped his team clinch a spot in the postseason.

He is a four-time Senegalese league champion and three-time Senegalese cup champion with AS Douanes and a member of the Senegal Men’s National Team.

Previous BAL Ubuntu Trophy recipients include Hichem Benayad-Cherif of Algeria’s Groupement Sportif des Pétroliers in 2021, Jean-Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza (Rwanda Energy Group Basketball Club; 2022) and Tonny Drileba (Uganda’s City Oilers; 2023).
