Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda men’s national cricket team secured a four-wicket victory over Malawi in the Tri-National Series taking place at Gahanga Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, July 22.
The hosts had mixed fortunes on Day Four of the series, first beating Malawi in the morning fixture before they suffered a heavy defeat against Bahrain by 112 runs in the afternoon.
In the morning fixture, Malawi won the toss and elected to bat first and went on to post 134/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Sohail Vayani provided a late boost for Malawi with an unbeaten 30 runs off just 12 balls.
Rwanda successfully chased down the target, reaching 135/6 in 19 overs. Didier Ndikubwimana was instrumental in the chase, scoring a crucial 52 runs off 45 balls. Martin Akayezu contributed to winning cause, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs in his 4-over spell.
In the afternoon matchup, Bahrain won the toss and elected to bat first. They set a formidable total of 211/4 in their 20 overs, driven by Asif Ali’s explosive 100 runs off 55 balls and Fiaz Ahmed’s 78 off 42 balls.
Rwanda struggled in response, managing only 99 all out in 19.4 overs, marking their third loss of the tournament so far.
Since the tournament began on July 18, Rwanda has secured two wins and three losses.
Malawi remains winless, while Bahrain leads the standings with 10 points after five consecutive victories. Rwanda follows with 4 points.
