Swimming: Ugandans dominate Mako Sharks championship

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Uganda’s Aquatic Academy dominated the 2025 Mako Sharks Invitational Swimming Championship, held from June 7–-9 in Kigali.

The event, organised by Mako Sharks Swimming Club, took place at Green Hills Swimming Pool in Nyarutarama, with over 220 swimmers from Uganda and Rwanda taking part.

Aquatic Academy Kampala emerged as the top team with 5,094 points, while Mako Sharks came second with 3,098 points, and Cercle Sportif Karongi came third with 1,734.5 points.

Rwanda Swimming Federation President Cyntia Umunyana praised the event’s organisation and thanked the Ugandan teams for participating.

The competition included various swimming disciplines such as breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly over distances of 25m, 50m, and 100m, along with different relay races.

3. Cercle Sportif Karongi – 1,734.5 points

4. Kigali Sporting Club – 1,534 points

5. Hertz Swim Club – 751.5 points

6. Friends of Water – 519.5 points

7. Starlings Swim Club – 454 points

8. Steers Aquatics – 391.5 points

9. Ntare Louisenlund School – 136 points
