Point guard Kamba Diakite scored a game-high 27 points to help APR beat Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 96-76 in their opening Zone V Women’s Championship match at Amaan Indoor Stadium on Monday.
Shooting guard Italee Lucas and Shaina Pellington contributed 22 and 21 points respectively as the army side started the regional basketball campaign in top form.
Charles Mushumba’s side returns to action on Tuesday, October 29, against Hawassa City from Ethiopia.
Meanwhile, Rwanda Energy Group women continued their winning form with yet another 86-73 victory over Kenya’s Equity Bank.
The Rwandan pair are, alongside other nine other teams, contesting two slots which are up for grabs for the African Women Basketball League (AWBL) finals.
The continental tournament will take place in Dakar, Senegal in December.
APR are drawn in Group B, with KPA (Kenya) and Hawassa City (Ethiopia) while REG are in Group C alongside Equity Bank (Kenya), Fox Divas (Tanzania) and Gladiators (Burundi).
