Africa-Press – Seychelles. The National Assembly yesterday approved a motion brought by the elected member for the district of Grand Anse Mahé, Honorable Waven William, who asked that following the lack of precision and waste of resources in the implementation of certain projects and providing services at the community level, the Assembly also requested all key actors in community to continue to review their approach for better results.

This motion was approved by 17 members of the Democratic Union of Seychelles (LDS) who voted for, no one voted against and 6 members of the United Seychelles (US) did not vote.

Before he spoke about his motion, Honorable William explained that when he is referring to the participation of key actors in the community, this includes government agencies, the private business sector and civil society involved in activities in the district as well as members of the public. generally as citizens in communities.

He said that his motion is related to the concern and the way that things are being undertaken at the district level, where many of them have been raised in public meetings, and also to carry the attention that in the development of a country there is always room to make progress and to do better.

The Honorable William added that the purpose of his motion is also to help those who are paid to render services in the community, they will stop blackmailing and make the lives of people in the community, who are looking for a solution to their problems, easier.

He said that citizens do not have to contact the president or minister for anything because there are as many workers under them who can facilitate service and give an answer.

He said that the officers who have a responsibility to render services should not become a barrier to prevent people from doing business, but on the contrary.

He added that to improve the way projects in the district are done and to avoid wastage, there needs to be consultation and inclusion of district authorities before decisions for such activities at the district level are made.

“Mr. Speaker, I want to say that this motion came forward because we see that there should be improvement and there is room for us to do better,” Honorable William said.

All members of the LDS majority who spoke spoke in favor of the motion. They said that even though many things are going well in the district, there are also things that are not working for the benefit of the residents and that need to be addressed.

They said that certain decisions that have been taken for certain projects in the district, especially in the past, have not been taken in consultation with the district authorities and its residents and as a result, many have not benefited the communities that have done so. brought a lot of wastage.

They congratulated all those who did their job well to help satisfy the residents and avoid wastage.

“The people who are rendering services should not see district leaders as people who make them afraid but as people who want to work together with them to make the community and the country prosperous. Let’s not look for solutions that were supposed to work yesterday so that we can do it tomorrow,” Honorable Naddy Zialor said.

The US members who spoke did not support this motion. They said that when the government came before the assembly, they, the LDS members, did not give a hand to the US members to question it (the government) for its inefficiency to act on the same things that they are trying to do through this motion.

“If we played our role as it should have been done, there would be no need to have such a motion before the assembly,” Honorable Johan Loze said.

The last to speak, the LDS member for the Bel Ombre district, Sandy Arrisol, remarked that even though the US members say that their caucus (LDS) does not ask the government questions, on the contrary, it is the US members who do not ask questions because of the order paper. There is no motion or question registered from them.

In his conclusion and among some of the recommendations he put forward, another motion by Honorable William asked President Wavel Ramkalawan to consider encouraging his ministers or principal secretaries to meet twice a year in consultation with the district authorities to see and discuss the status of the prose

He pointed out that this is the job of the president.
