Africa-Press – Seychelles. The U.S. embassy in Seychelles, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, conducted a week-long workshop from July 21 to 25, 2025 titled ‘Investigating and Prosecuting Complex Financial Crimes’.
The workshop brought together participants from Seychelles agencies, including the Seychelles Police Force, Financial Crimes Investigations Unit, Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles, Financial Intelligence Unit, Attorney General’s Office, Financial Services Authority, and Seychelles Revenue Commission.
Subject matter experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and one formerly from the Department of Justice (DOJ) focused on providing the participating investigators, analysts, and prosecutors with an understanding of international best practices to utilise during complex financial crime investigations and prosecutions.
FBI Special Agents, an FBI Staff Operations Specialist, and former DOJ Trial Attorney provided practical based training on techniques necessary to develop and complete complex financial crime investigations and prosecutions. The training included sessions on interviewing, forensic accounting, digital evidence recovery, foreign mutual legal assistance, and social media exploitation to build skill sets to lead to more successful case adjudication. The training also encouraged cooperation and collaboration between the Seychelles agencies with a role in combatting complex financial crimes.
During the closing ceremony yesterday at the Financial Intelligence Unit Auditorium, U.S. chargé d’affaires Adham Loutfi highlighted the workshop’s importance in facilitating knowledge exchange between U.S. and Seychellois experts in financial crime investigation. He noted that while this session focused exclusively on Seychelles, future trainings will expand to include other island nations, enhancing regional cooperation. The initiative underscores the shared U.S.-Seychelles commitment to building institutional resilience and tackling transnational financial crimes.
