Sierra Leone Police Hospital Begins Mpox Vaccination for Police Officers

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital in Kingtom has started a countrywide vaccination campaign for police officers following a recent outbreak of Monkeypox in the country.

The vaccination drive began earlier this month, focusing first on frontline officers and gradually reaching police divisions, stations, and posts in other areas. According to the hospital, thousands of officers have already received the vaccine.

The hospital also put new safety measures in place. These include health screenings, better hygiene steps, and awareness campaigns. Officers are being taught how to spot Monkeypox symptoms, stay safe at work, and get medical help early if needed.

“We are also intensifying our sensitization efforts to educate officers and the public on recognizing symptoms, observing hygiene protocols, and seeking timely medical attention,” said Dr. John M. Konteh, who leads the Police Hospital at Kingtom.

Before starting the vaccinations, the hospital set up an isolation center. This center is now treating suspected and confirmed Monkeypox cases. The setup helps stop the virus from spreading further in the community.

The police hospital says this is part of a wider plan to protect both officers and the public. All police staff are being urged to get vaccinated and follow the health rules shared by medical teams.
