Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has announced 17 job vacancies across ten newly established companies, marking a significant step in its efforts to boost national development and improve military personnel welfare.
The positions, advertised on July 25th and 29th, 2025, are part of initiatives spearheaded by the Defence Enterprise Services (DES), the RSLAF’s investment arm.
The Defence Enterprise Services (DES) was established by President Julius Maada Bio, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the RSLAF and Chairman of the Defence Council. This move is part of a broader vision to transform the RSLAF into a modern military institution recognized for both security and development contributions.
Under the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991, the RSLAF is tasked with both security and national development. Its security functions include safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity, protecting citizens’ achievements, and upholding the Constitution. Concurrently, the RSLAF is mandated to participate in national development, with investment identified as a crucial element.
DES will manage the armed forces’ investment opportunities, which currently span financial services, agriculture, solar energy, civil engineering, garment manufacturing, and laboratory and pharmaceutical services.
Lieutenant-General Amara Idara Bangura, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff, emphasized that while the armed forces are pursuing these investment ventures, their commitment to traditional security roles remains absolute.
“The various investment opportunities will not only generate revenues in order to solve the overwhelming welfare challenges faced by military personnel but will also contribute to economic growth and job creation in the country,” General Bangura stated.
