Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. First Lady Madam Fatima Maada Bio has highlighted the commissioning of the newly constructed Gendema Bridge as a major fulfilment of government’s commitment to improving the lives of people in rural communities.
In a facebook post, the First Lady said she had the honour of accompanying her husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, to the official commissioning ceremony in Simbaru Chiefdom, Kenema District, the First Lady said the bridge represents hope, progress, and renewed opportunity for families across Simbaru, Wandor, and Gorama Mende Chiefdoms.
She noted that for years, residents struggled to move goods, access healthcare, and ensure their children reached school safely, especially during the rainy season. With the new bridge now in place, Madam Fatima Bio emphasized that daily life will become safer and more convenient, particularly for farmers and schoolchildren.
“This is a promise fulfilled one that will ease movement, support trade, and strengthen education and health access for our people,” she said.
The First Lady added that the bridge will significantly boost agricultural activities by enabling farmers to transport their produce to markets without the obstacles they once faced, thereby improving local livelihoods and economic stability.
Her presence at the ceremony underscored her continued support for development initiatives aimed at ensuring no region is left behind as Sierra Leone continues its national development journey.
