Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Senior officials of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) have on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, held a high-level working session at the LNP Headquarters Conference Hall in Monrovia to review implementation strategies for the recently signed bilateral security communiqué and advance plans for deeper regional cooperation.
According to details from the meeting, the two institutions also focused on developing a draft roadmap for the establishment of the Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee.
The proposed body is expected to enhance collaboration among police services within the Mano River Union (MRU) basin, strengthen joint security mechanisms, and promote long-term peace, stability, and mutual understanding among the Inspectors General of Police in the region.
Officials from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to resolving any misunderstandings through legal and diplomatic channels, avoiding threats or the use of force, and adhering to local and international law.
During the session, a technical working group engaged in extensive deliberations covering four major areas of shared interest. These included cross-border crime prevention and intelligence sharing, joint training and capacity-building programmes, community policing best practices, and cybersecurity, human trafficking, and combating transnational organised crime.
Both the SLP and the LNP outlined practical strategies to implement the provisions of the communiqué. They noted that the measures agreed upon will not only strengthen security cooperation between the two countries but also reduce bureaucratic delays in addressing issues of national importance.
The joint team further identified priority areas for phased implementation, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and supporting sustained peace and stability across the sub-region.
Officials from both institutions described the meeting as a significant step toward operationalising the commitments made in the recently signed communiqué and advancing regional security coordination through the proposed Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee.
