Late MPs To Be Publicly Named Speaker Thomas Issues Warning

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has issued a strong reminder to Members of Parliament regarding the limitations of parliamentary privileges, specifically emphasizing the importance of attending sittings promptly as plenary proceedings now begin at 10:00 AM sharp.

Speaker Thomas praised the House for its recent commitment to regular attendance, noting that many legislators have already shown “exemplary dedication” by arriving on time. He urged Members to maintain that momentum, stressing that punctuality is crucial not only for the efficiency of the Legislature but also for the credibility of the institution in the eyes of the public.

“When we start on time, we send a clear message that the work of the people matters,” the Speaker said. He announced that, moving forward, he would begin naming MPs who fail to be in their seats on time.

“This is not about blame,” he added, “but about ensuring that every voice is present when decisions that affect the nation are made.”

The reminder comes as the House prepares for a busy schedule of bills, oversight hearings, and budget reviews. With the Speaker’s firm stance, legislators are expected to adjust their routines, anticipating smoother and more disciplined proceedings in the months ahead.
