Opposition Whip Questions Waka Fine Bus Revenue Management

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Opposition Whip, Abdul Karim Kamara popularly known as AKK has raised fresh concerns over the management of funds generated through the Waka Fine Bus initiative, questioning whether the revenue is being handled transparently and in the best interest of the public.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, he emphasized that accountability is central to good governance and insisted that citizens deserve clear answers on how revenue from the government-backed bus service is being utilized.

“Can someone explain to us what happened to the money generated from the Waka Fine buses? Accountability is an important part of governance,” he wrote, triggering renewed debate around transparency in the transport sector.

The Waka Fine Bus project introduced by the Government of Sierra Leone as a modern public transport solution was designed to improve urban mobility, reduce travel costs, and create a safer, more efficient commuting system. Operating mainly in Freetown and select regional cities, the buses rely on a ticketing model intended to sustainably fund maintenance, fuel, staff salaries, and future expansion.

However, the Opposition Whip’s comments highlight growing public concern over whether revenue from the service has been properly tracked and disclosed since its launch. Many citizens have echoed similar questions, citing a lack of publicly available financial reports on earnings and expenditure.

As calls for transparency intensify, stakeholders are urging the Ministry of Transport and Aviation and other relevant agencies to provide a detailed account of revenue inflows, operational costs, and the overall financial health of the Waka Fine system. Such disclosure, they argue, is essential to ensuring the service remains reliable and beneficial to the wider population.

For now, the public awaits an official response from the authorities responsible for overseeing the Waka Fine transport service.
