Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s annual inflation rate fell to 4.44 percent in October 2025, down from 5.36 percent in September, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by Statistics Sierra Leone.
The decline marks a continued cooling of nationwide price pressures, though regional data shows significant variations across the country.
The Western Area recorded the highest year-on-year inflation rate at 6.23 percent, a drop from 7.75 percent in September. Month-on-month inflation in the region also eased to -0.34 percent from 1.03 percent, indicating a moderation in price increases.
In contrast, the Eastern Region registered a year-on-year deflation of –1.34 percent, shifting from 1.68 percent recorded the previous month. Month-on-month inflation in the region also declined to –0.59 percent, pointing to continued price reductions across major commodities.
The Southern Region reported a similar pattern, with year-on-year inflation falling to –0.29 percent from 0.52 percent in September. Month-on-month inflation edged down to –0.12 percent, reflecting slight but persistent deflationary trends.
The Northern Region remained relatively stable, posting a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.47 percent, compared to 1.57 percent in September. Month-on-month inflation held steady at –0.36 percent.
The North-West Region also experienced a slowdown, with year-on-year inflation dropping to 0.56 percent from 1.65 percent. Month-on-month inflation fell sharply to –0.59 percent, matching the Eastern Region’s rate.
National month-on-month inflation stood at –0.51 percent, reversing the 0.63 percent increase recorded in September. The negative rate reinforces the overall disinflationary momentum while highlighting uneven economic conditions across regions.
According to the report, regional differences may be linked to variations in supply chains, market accessibility, and seasonal changes. The discrepancies suggest that while some areas are benefiting from falling prices, others – particularly the Western Area – continue to experience relatively higher inflationary pressures.
Statistics Sierra Leone noted that the regional disparities underscore the need for targeted policy responses as the country continues to navigate shifting economic conditions.
