Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s U-20 national football team, the Shooting Stars, has been placed in Group C for the upcoming 2025 WAFU A&B U-20 Boys Sub-Regional Tournament, which will be held in Ghana from June 15 to 30, 2025.

The draw, conducted on Friday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, sees the Shooting Stars facing strong competition from Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin. This year’s tournament is notable as it marks the first joint competition for teams from both WAFU Zone A and Zone B, serving as the qualifying stage for the TotalEnergies Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Shooting Stars made history in the previous WAFU A qualifiers held in Monrovia, Liberia, where they secured their first qualification for the AFCON U-20 tournament. The team is now determined to build on that success in this expanded format.

A total of 13 countries will participate, including Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Liberia, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Nigeria, and the host nation Ghana.

Group-stage matches will be held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the final taking place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra. The tournament aims to enhance integration between the two WAFU zones and provide a vital platform for developing young football talent across West Africa.
