Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has held a sensitization meeting with staff of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) at their district office in Koidu City, aimed at promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability in the operations of the Authority.

Speaking on the purpose of the engagement, Acting Regional Director for Kono, Andrew Demby, cited Section 7 (1) (a) of the ACC Act 2008, as amended in 2019, which mandates the Commission to take all necessary measures to prevent, eradicate, or suppress corruption in the nation.

Demby explained that the meeting focused on policy issues affecting the Authority and fostering collaboration to minimize corruption in daily operations. He highlighted the link between effective service delivery and increased revenue generation, emphasizing that the ACC is not a “witch-hunt” entity but is committed to ensuring quality service across all public bodies.

Senior Public Education Officer Sam P. Gogra underscored the importance of a strategic alliance in the fight against corruption, noting the Commission’s impartiality, transparency, and credibility. He highlighted achievements such as robust public education campaigns, systems reviews in MDAs, creation of Citizens Service Delivery Charters, the Income, Assets, and Liability declaration exercises, and recovery of millions of Leones and other properties from those found culpable of corruption. Gogra also cited Sierra Leone’s 71 percent score in the control of corruption indicator on the recently released MCC FY 2026 Scorecard as evidence of the ACC’s efforts.

He further informed staff about corruption-related offences under the Anti-Corruption Act, including bribery, misappropriation of funds, abuse of office, and conflict of interest, noting that penalties include fines, jail terms, or both. Methods for reporting graft and protections for whistle-blowers were also discussed.

Concluding the meeting, Head of Station SLRSA Kono, Eric A. Sam, commended the ACC team for the interactive and timely discussion. He highlighted ongoing efforts to decentralize products and services to reduce delays and bureaucracy and pledged full support from his staff in the fight against corruption.
