APC Accuses Government of Delaying Reforms and Warns Risks

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The All People’s Congress (APC) has expressed deep frustration over what it describes as the government’s deliberate delay in implementing the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee.

The party’s top leadership issued the warning during a press conference held on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, at the APC National Secretariat in Freetown.

Addressing party members, the media, and the public, Acting Chairman Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansanneh said the government’s delay in acting on the committee’s recommendations amounts to a betrayal of national trust. He emphasized that the APC remains fully committed to the process but will not sit idly by while democratic principles are ignored.

“We are committed to fully partake in this process,” he said. “Ignoring the implementation process is not just a betrayal of the APC, but a direct betrayal of the people of Sierra Leone.”

Dr. Kaifala Marah, a senior party figure and member of the Tripartite Technical Team, accused the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of “procrastinating and cherry-picking” from the 84 recommendations to suit its political interests. He urged unity within the APC, warning that the 2028 general elections could be compromised if reforms are not fully implemented.

“If we don’t stand up and resist certain things now, 2028 will be lost before it begins,” he cautioned.

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), echoed these concerns, accusing the government of intentionally avoiding transparency in the electoral process.

“The SLPP does not want to go, but they will go,” he declared, adding that the people of Sierra Leone are ready for genuine democracy and accountability.

The press conference concluded with a firm resolution from APC leadership to continue advocating, through all legitimate and peaceful means, for the full implementation of the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations and the Agreement for National Unity.

The party’s message was clear: the APC stands united, vigilant, and determined to protect Sierra Leone’s democratic future.
