Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, has been honored with the prestigious Africa Golden Star Award during a ceremony held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Aberdeen, Freetown.
The accolade recognized his outstanding leadership and commitment to enhancing health sector management within the Sierra Leone Police and the broader community.
The award spotlighted Dr. Konteh’s vital contributions to combating Mpox and other infectious diseases, as well as his initiatives to improve medical facilities across all 38 police divisions in the country. Notably, his efforts aligned with the vision set forth by the founding fathers of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU).
Dr. Konteh has been described as an invaluable asset to the Sierra Leone Police. His leadership has been reportedly crucial in transforming the Sierra Leone Police Hospital into a teaching hospital, thereby improving medical training and services.
He has further established a partnership with the Surgeons in Action Foundation, an international non-profit organization, which resulted in the donation of medical equipment worth over $70,000. The collaboration also facilitated a successful free surgical operations campaign, benefiting many in the community.
The award was presented by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, emphasizing the international recognition of Dr. Konteh’s contributions to public health and institutional development.
