Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Fourah Bay College ( FBC) Muslim Jama’at on Friday, 23rd May 2025, with support from Ummah Welfare Trust, distributed about one thousand sets of Islamic textbooks to students, lecturers, administrators, and other members of the campus community.
The books, donated by Ummah Welfare Trust, include ‘My Dhikr Companion’ and a pocket-sized ‘Daily Adkhar’ text produced by the donors and contain hundreds of daily supplications taken from the Holy Qu’ran and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
“We are appreciative of this gesture, which is nothing short of a boost to our growing Muslim community on campus,” says Chief Imam of the Jama’at, Ibrahim B. Kargbo.
The book distribution is part of several humanitarian projects carried out by the Islamic group to preserve and promote Islam and deepen taqwa (God-consciousness) on campus, simultaneously with pursuing secular knowledge.
“The content of both textbooks is very helpful to all those who have benefited today, irrespective of age and educational background,” said Sullay Jamal Kalokoh, President of the Jama’at.
The Jama’at has, over the years, prided itself on knowledge-building and community service.
Some of their traditional activities have included providing food for Muslims during the month of Ramadan with support from private individuals and corporate bodies, and free Arabic classes at night for students residing on campus.
Dr. Momodu Turay, a lecturer and one of the elders of the Masjid, thanked Ummah Welfare immeasurably for the latest donation and previous ones, explaining that such assistance is vital for spiritual growth.
“Words cannot explain how happy I was when I received the textbooks,” a final year Print Journalism student.
The donors of the project, Ummah Welfare Trust, are one of the biggest contributors to the advancement of Islam in Sierra Leone, providing free Islamic courses for thousands of kids across the country and employing hundreds of Muslims, from youth to the elderly.
The teaming up of the two groups reflects shared values and commitment to promoting pristine Islam through ilm (knowledge), ikram (humanism), and dawah (proselytisation).
