Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Bakeh Loko Chiefdom Paramount Chieftaincy election in Port Loko City ended in a dramatic turn today as no candidate secured the required 55% threshold, forcing the process into a runoff

The election, held at the Conference Hall in Port Loko, on 15 November 2025, brought together ruling houses from across the chiefdom, each represented by strong contenders. In what has been described as one of the most competitive chieftaincy races in recent years, aspirants gained the following votes:

Ishmael Oppa Bangura (Adikali Mela 1 Ruling House) – 271 votes

Abubakarr Baba Gbendeh Kamara (Adikali Sadu Kamara Ruling House) – 19 votes

Rtd. Colonel Karifa Kamara (Adikali Fatma Brima 1 Ruling House) – 88 votes

Mohamed Momoh Kamara (Fatma Brima Ruling House) – 24 votes

Kalie Alpha Bangura (Moribia Bangura Ruling House) – 21 votes

Alhaji Sheriff Kamara (Adikali Modou Ruling House) – 53 votes

Abdulai Bangura (Moribia Ruling House) – 136 votes

From the final count, Ishmael Oppa Bangura and Abdulai Bangura emerged as the top two aspirants, but neither reached the mandatory 55% majority required by chieftaincy regulations.

Speaking to the audience during the announcement, Mr. Augustine Forgba the provincial secretary stated that a runoff between the top two candidates will be conducted, though the exact date is yet to be officially released.

The election atmosphere remained calm throughout the day, with traditional authorities, stakeholders, and security personnel ensuring order and fairness. Residents of Bakeh Loko now eagerly await the next phase to determine who will become the next Paramount Chief.
