Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. An unidentified man experienced a near-death with severe injuries after attempting to steal electric cables from a transformer in Kandeh Town, Bo, Southern Sierra Leone on Friday night.

Videos making rounds on social media on Saturday morning showed the man lying close to the transformer almost lifeless as passersby were left in awe of his callousness and risk to steal cables from a high voltage transformer.

The video’s commentator narrated that the man had earlier break into the compound of the transformer to cart away with the copper cables attached to the said transformer when he was struck by an exposed wire. An eyewitness said the contact left him lying motionless.

Meanwhile, the police and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Agency (EDSA) are yet issue a statement on the theft and current condition of the unidentified man.

However, cable theft is not a new modus operandi of most thieves in that part of the country. Some few months ago, another man was electrocuted to death in Bo after coming in contact with a live wire.

Both incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with tampering with electrical infrastructure. While the man in Kandeh Town narrowly escaped death, the consequences of his actions could have been fatal not only to himself, but others in the community who rely on the transformer for electricity.

Authorities and some members of the public are urging the public to refrain from acts of theft and vandalism and instead work with community leaders to protect critical infrastructures in the country.
