Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has received a major boost to its media and public relations capabilities following the donation of state-of-the-art media equipment from the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.

The donation was officially presented during a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, by a delegation from the Chinese Embassy led by Minister Counsellor Mr. Zhang Diabin.

The consignment includes high-end cameras, computers, and accessories aimed at enhancing the digital and communication infrastructure of the SLP’s Media and Public Relations Department.

Minister Counsellor Zhang explained that the gesture was part of China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration with Sierra Leone. He noted that the equipment is expected to significantly improve the department’s efficiency and output, particularly in public engagement and strategic communication.

“We believe that by equipping your media team with modern tools, we are contributing to the professional growth of the Sierra Leone Police and supporting its modernization drive,” said Mr. Zhang. He further disclosed plans to offer training opportunities for 20 SLP officials in China as part of the broader cooperation between the two countries.

In response, IGP Sellu expressed heartfelt gratitude for the continued support from the Chinese government. He recalled his own experience in China during a training program in 2013 and welcomed the upcoming opportunity for more officers to benefit from similar exposure.

He also briefed the delegation on the SLP’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety through technological investments, including the recent installation of CCTV surveillance systems in Freetown and Bo.

“We intend to expand these installations to other major cities like Makeni, Kenema, and Port Loko, as part of the government’s ‘Safe Salone’ initiative and the President’s ‘Big Five Game Changers’ agenda,” IGP Sellu stated.

The visit concluded with the Chinese delegation extending a formal invitation to IGP Sellu to attend China’s National Day celebration later this year.
