Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Peter George, a U.S.-based Sierra Leonean and CEO of IDEAL Technologies, has been awarded the prestigious Impact Innovation Award by the University of Notre Dame. The recognition highlights his significant contributions to sustainable technology and environmental stewardship.
George, also a 2025 Mandela Washington Fellow, was honored for his efforts in tackling energy poverty and environmental degradation through innovative and practical solutions. His work at IDEAL Technologies focuses on advancing sustainable development across underserved communities.
The award, presented annually to individuals who demonstrate exceptional innovation with measurable social impact, recognizes George’s leadership in spearheading solar-powered technologies and promoting effective waste recycling initiatives across underserved communities.
As the founder and CEO of IDEAL Technologies, George has overseen the development and deployment of renewable energy solutions designed to improve energy access in remote areas. His company’s solar-powered devices have been adopted in multiple communities, helping to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and expand access to clean energy.
In addition to renewable energy, George has been instrumental in designing scalable waste management and recycling systems aimed at reducing environmental degradation while creating green jobs. Under his leadership, IDEAL Technologies has launched several pilot programs that integrate youth employment with community-based waste recycling.
The University of Notre Dame, one of the host institutions for the Mandela Washington Fellowship, praised George for his innovative spirit and commitment to solving real-world challenges.
“Peter George embodies the kind of leadership and ingenuity that drives sustainable development forward. His projects align with global priorities in clean energy and environmental responsibility, making him a deserving recipient of this year’s Impact Innovation Award,” said a university spokesperson during the award ceremony.
George, a Sierra Leonean national, was selected earlier this year as part of the 2025 cohort of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, a flagship program of the U.S. Department of State. The fellowship brings together emerging African leaders for academic and professional training in the United States.
In a brief statement, George expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing his achievements to collaborative efforts and a shared vision for inclusive progress. “This award is not just about me, but about the communities we serve and the teams that work tirelessly to drive innovation with impact,” he said.
As attention grows around clean technology and sustainable development in Africa, leaders like Peter George are being celebrated not only for their ideas but for their tangible contributions to societal transformation.
