Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. State House Communications Director, Myk Berewa has announced significant progress on the ongoing construction of the Manowa Bridge, a major infrastructure project set to transform connectivity in Kailahun District.

According to his update, work is “in full swing” on the 181-metre, two-lane bridge, which will span the Moa River and replace the long-standing manual cable ferry that residents have relied on for decades.

The project is scheduled for completion in February 2026.

Berewa noted that President Julius Maada Bio remains committed to strengthening links between communities, emphasising that bridges are “more than just concrete and steel.” He said the new structure will improve access to enssential services such as healthcare and education, invigorate local trade, and support job creation.

He further highlighted the broader socioeconomic benefits, explaining that the bridge will shorten travel times, enhance emergency response, and open up opportunities for families to increase their income through better access to markets and employment.

The Manowa Bridge is expected to become a key driver of development in the eastern region upon completion.
