Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, praised graduating students of the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU). Bio, who was the keynote speaker at MMTU Convocation, described the event as “a day of triumph” for the graduating students.

Addressing the gathering of graduates, staff, families, and invited guests, Bio said the day marked “a culmination of sacrifice, sleepless nights, resilience, and the unshakable belief that your dreams are worthy of pursuit.”

She told the students that the awards they received were more than academic achievements. “Graduates, you are not just collecting certificates; you are collecting the keys to your future,” she said.

The First Lady urged the graduates to leave the university with a set of guiding principles. She encouraged them to “embrace lifelong learning,” remain “curious, hungry, and adaptable,” and strive for excellence by being “innovative and agile.” She also called on them to serve their communities as they begin their careers.

Bio stressed the importance of resilience in the face of challenges. “Be courageous and resilient. Setbacks will come, but they are not stop signs – they are stepping stones. Persevere with dignity and determination,” she stated.

Highlighting the country’s development priorities, the First Lady encouraged the graduates to take active roles in shaping Sierra Leone’s future. She said they should be the people who “build our infrastructure, drive our tourism, power our industry, and grow our agriculture.” She described them as “the champions of sustainable development” and “the heartbeat of Sierra Leone’s progress.”

In closing, she urged the students to reflect on their achievements before moving forward. “As you take your awards today, pause and honor your journey, your struggles, and your victories, then step into your future with courage, pride, and purpose,” she said.
