Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s First Lady and President of OAFLAD, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, Graces the 9th Edition of the National Climate & Environmental Cares Awards.

I had the honour of attending the 9th Edition of the National Climate & Environmental Cares Awards, held under the theme “We Are the Solution.” She said.

She added that, as First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of OAFLAD, “ I was honoured to receive an award in recognition of my efforts in climate advocacy. I accepted it on behalf of myself and my husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who continues to prioritise environmental protection and sustainability as part of Sierra Leone’s national agenda.”

“Climate change remains a serious challenge for Sierra Leone and the wider African continent.” She said. First Lady Fatima Bio further highlights that its impacts are already visible in our agriculture, water sources, and the well-being of communities.

“I believe it is essential that we continue to raise awareness and take practical steps to address these realities. Promoting sustainable practices and supporting climate education are part of that ongoing work.’’ She said.

In conclusion, she expresses her gratitude by saying, “ This recognition encourages continued collaboration between government, civil society, and development partners. As we reflect on the theme of this year’s awards, I remain committed to playing my part in helping Sierra Leone move towards a more resilient and environmentally conscious future.

The event, organised by Shout Climate Change Africa in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, is currently taking place at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.
