Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has received a donation of camera drones and body cameras from former police officer Eric James Musa. The donation was made today, August 22, 2025, at the SLP Headquarters in Freetown.

The donation ceremony was organized through Squad R1 2005 of the Sierra Leone Police and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority. The initiative aims to strengthen surveillance and enhance law enforcement nationwide.

During the handover ceremony, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu expressed gratitude to Mr. Musa, noting that it was the first time in his long career to witness a former officer giving back to the force in such a significant way. He offered prayers for Musa’s long life and prosperity, and encouraged other Sierra Leoneans, particularly ex-officers, to emulate the gesture.

IGP Sellu recalled an incident where intelligence indicated an imminent protest. “We deployed drones in the area, and once people saw the surveillance, the gathering dispersed and the protest did not hold,” he explained.

He further disclosed that the SLP has now established “drone corridors” across the country, with each district equipped with 1 surveillance drone. He also pointed out that drones played a critical role in maintaining order during the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) delegates’ conference by monitoring potential threats of violence.

Finally, the donation marks a new step in leveraging technology to strengthen the SLP’s capacity for effective law enforcement and public safety.
