Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED)has suspended the operations of Sixteen non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Sierra Leone, citing noncompliance with established requirements.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry on August 22nd, 2025, the decision follows a comprehensive review of the operational landscape, which revealed that certain NGOs were operating without meeting the requisite standards outlined in the NGO policy framework. A key requirement is for NGOs to have an identifiable office in Sierra Leone.
“As custodians of public trust and resources, it is imperative that NGOs adhere to the prescribed requirements to fulfil their missions effectively while ensuring that resources are judiciously used,” the press release stated. As follow are the NGOs affected by the directive:

The Ministry emphasized that this action is not intended to impede the valuable contributions made by NGOs in various spheres of societal development. Rather, it is a proactive step towards enhancing the integrity of the NGO sector, thereby fostering greater public confidence and trust.
The Ministry has directed the affected NGOs to cease operations with immediate effect, underscoring the importance of compliance with the NGO policy framework.
