Government Approves Revised ECSL Staff Conditions Ahead of 2028

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Government of Sierra Leone has approved revised conditions of service for staff of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), a move officials say is aimed at strengthening the institution ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The approval has been formally acknowledged by the Commission’s Acting Chief Electoral Commissioner, Edmond Sylvester Alpha.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary to the President, Mr. Barba B. Fortune, Commissioner Alpha expressed gratitude for the government’s “timely intervention,” stating that the new terms have “restored the confidence and morale of staff” and would serve as a vital source of motivation.

According to the government, the revision is part of a broader restructuring effort for the ECSL. The changes were recommended by the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) and the Tripartite Committee, with the goal of aligning the Commission’s internal systems with national legal reforms and principles of fiscal discipline.

With the 2028 elections on the horizon, the ECSL leadership has pledged its commitment to full compliance with electoral legal reforms and prudent management practices.

The development underscores the critical need for a professional and well-supported electoral body as the nation prepares for its next democratic cycle.
