Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has officially launched the reconstruction of the 105-kilometre Kambia-Tomparie-Kamakwie Road, marking the country’s second-largest road infrastructure project.

The initiative is being funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

The project launch was announced by SLRA Director General Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu during a workshop held at the Country Lodge Hotel. Key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Works, gathered to align on financial procedures and accelerate the project’s implementation schedule.

The road reconstruction is considered strategically important, as it directly supports national goals, including enhanced connectivity, economic growth, and the government’s Feed Salone initiative.

The Minister of Works, the Ministry of Finance, and the Islamic Development Bank all praised the project’s potential to unlock significant agricultural and economic opportunities in the region.

A dedicated Project Implementation Unit (PIU) has been established to oversee the work. Contractors confirmed that the new road is designed to have a lifespan of over 27 years.

Construction is set to commence soon, according to the SLRA.
