Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Former leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has criticised President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership, following his symbolic launch of a 60-hectare maize farm in Taiama, Moyamba District in Southern Sierra Leone.

In a Facebook post, Kamarainba wrote: “After almost eight years, Maada Bio is ready to feed Salone with corn and Bio cassava. This man has a PhD in failure and mendacity.” The comment, which has since generated mixed reactions online, appears to mock the government’s renewed efforts to boost agricultural production under the Feed Salone initiative -strong pillar launched under the Bio administration.

President Bio had earlier launched the symbolic maize harvest as part of his administration’s broader strategy to promote food security, enhance local production, and reduce dependence on imported commodities. The initiative forms a central pillar of the government’s development agenda aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector and empowering rural farmers.

While Mansaray’s remarks were viewed by some as political criticism, others have defended the President’s efforts, noting that the Feed Salone program has already begun yielding visible results in several districts.

The exchange highlights the continuing national debate over the pace and impact of Sierra Leone’s agricultural transformation, as the Bio administration continues to push for self-sufficiency through science-driven and community-based farming initiatives.

However, with over 60 percent of the country’s GDP dependent on Agriculture, experts have called on the government to introduce mechanised farming and support for local farmers with soft loans to transform the agriculture sector.
