Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Medico International has concluded a three-day working visit to Kono District with high commendations for the outstanding work of the Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) in improving community livelihoods and empowering grassroots groups across the region.

The visiting team comprised of Finance Manager Philipp Henze and Project Manager Hannah Kentouche, expressed deep satisfaction with the progress made through the partnership between NMJD and Medico International.

Speaking during the visit, Philipp Henze emphasized the value of seeing firsthand the impact of the projects he often reviews from afar. “I am always in the office in Germany putting financial documents together throughout the year. So, I really appreciate coming to the field and personally interacting with the people we are working with,” he said.

Project Manager Hannah Kentouche also expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality received and for the clear evidence of transformation within the communities. “I am very pleased with the warm welcome, love and appreciation shown to us since our arrival,” she noted. “The gratitude and happiness expressed by the participants mean a lot to us at Medico International. It demonstrates the impact NMJD is making in these communities. We feel satisfied after coming to the field, interacting with the people we work with, and seeing the positive impacts of our partnership especially on local communities in Kono District. Medico International is happy to be part of this success story.”

The team began their engagement at NMJD’s office on 2 Suku Tamba Street in Koidu, where staff delivered detailed PowerPoint presentations highlighting achievements across various livelihood and rights-based projects. A curated gallery tour showcased additional milestones and visual stories from the district.

The itinerary also included courtesy visits to local stakeholders and extensive field trips across key project communities. The delegation visited NMJD-supported initiatives in the chiefdoms of Gbense, Nimiyama, and Gorama, reaching communities such as Sewafeh, Walehun, Peya, Kamadu, Boroma, Bunabu, and Tekonkoh/Sawola. Throughout these visits, the team interacted directly with women’s groups, farming associations, youth structures, and community leaders involved in NMJD programs.

NMJD’s support in Kono District continues to address the socioeconomic challenges faced by local communities. Their interventions include:

• Organizing women engaged in stone crushing into savings groups to improve financial security.

• Structuring and supporting farmers’ groups in agro-business initiatives such as large-scale vegetable gardening.

• Facilitating economic tree planting to promote environmental sustainability and future income generation.

• Managing revolving loan schemes that strengthen household economies and encourage self-reliance.

Medico International’s expressions of satisfaction reaffirm the strength of their collaboration with NMJD and highlight the tangible progress being made at the community level. Both organizations remain committed to expanding opportunities, deepening local participation, and fostering sustainable development throughout Kono District.
