Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has reappointed Dr. Walton Gilpin as the Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB), reaffirming his confidence in Dr. Gilpin’s leadership and accomplishments within the banking sector.

Bio’s appointments are made at his discretion and are based on merit. Gilpin’s reappointment notably reflects his proven track record and the trust placed in him to lead RCB effectively.

Upon receiving his reappointment letter, signed by Bio’s Secretary Barba Fortune, Gilpin expressed his gratitude to God and thanked President Bio for the opportunity to continue serving in this prestigious role.

Gilpin has been reportedly helpful in achieving significant milestones for RCB, particularly in the area of bank recapitalisation. Under his leadership, the bank successfully increased its operating capital from Le 91 billion to Le 271 billion, becoming the first commercial bank in Sierra Leone to surpass the Central Bank’s target within a year.

Currently overseeing 18 branches and 9 outlets across Sierra Leone, Gilpin is notably committed to expanding banking services and enhancing financial inclusion in line with the government’s strategy. His efforts include the introduction of numerous ATMs and financial products aimed at bringing banking closer to the people.

He is spearheading an internationalisation initiative, exploring the possibility of opening a new branch in neighbouring Liberia. This expansion aims to position RCB as a key player in the sub-regional finance market within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), further supported by recent investments in digital banking infrastructure.
