Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The newly elected President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, had addressed the pressing issues surrounding footballer Musa Tombo during his first public appearance held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, on AYV Media.
Kamara emphasized the need for understanding and compassion regarding Tombo’s mental health, stating that he is unable to play outside of Sierra Leone.
Kamara detailed Tombo’s recent experience in Tunisia, where the player joined a training camp but collapsed twice, which led the team management to terminate his contract and send him back home.
“When he went to Tunisia, he joined the team for training twice, and he collapsed twice, which discouraged the team management,” Kamara explained. “They decided to terminate their contract with him and send him back.”
Following his return, a viral photo surfaced on social media showing Tombo signing with a community league, which raised concerns among fans and stakeholders.
Kamara remarked, “These are proof to tell us that we cannot force Musa Tombo to play out of Sierra Leone,” expressing uncertainty about the motivations behind Tombo’s actions.
The SLFA President urged the public to focus on Tombo’s mental well-being rather than financial gain. “We have to think about Musa’s mental state more than the money you people think you can get from him,” he stated.
He criticized agents who pressure players to seek opportunities abroad, asserting that many agents prioritize profit over the players’ welfare. “Most of the agents, even if they offer them a sum of 1,000 dollars, they will do everything humanly possible for their player to go, and when they go, what they mostly get from their talent is very minimum,” he said.
Kamara concluded by calling for a collective acceptance of Tombo’s situation, urging stakeholders to manage and support him locally. “We should accept that Musa is not going to be able to play out of Sierra Leone, and what we need to do is to manage him here at the local level, look after him, and let him play what would give him happiness and the freedom he needs,” he affirmed.
