Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s Parliament will convene a pre-legislative hearing on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, to begin formal deliberations on the 78 recommendations proposed by the Tripartite Committee for electoral and democratic reform.
According to a public notice issued by the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, the hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Country Lodge Hotel in Hill Station, Freetown. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice is scheduled to present the recommendations to Members of Parliament for their consideration.
The Tripartite Committee, which included representatives from the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government, the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), and international moral guarantors, was established to review the country’s electoral systems following the disputed June 2023 general elections. The committee submitted its final report to President Julius Maada Bio in July 2024.
The comprehensive set of 78 recommendations covers wide-ranging reforms, including measures to enhance the independence and transparency of the Electoral Commission, improve voter registration processes, strengthen election security, and introduce constitutional and legal amendments.
Key proposals include the establishment of a more transparent process for appointing electoral commissioners, the introduction of fixed election dates, and reforms to campaign finance and electoral dispute resolution mechanisms.
President Bio previously commended the cross-party efforts that led to the report, emphasizing his commitment to working with the opposition to address democratic challenges and implement agreed-upon reforms.
Wednesday’s hearing marks the first step in the parliamentary process to translate these recommendations into actionable legislation.
