Sierra Leone Secures €28.2 Million German Grant for Health Energy

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone has secured a €28.2 million grant from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to support healthcare delivery, renewable energy development, and other key initiatives under the country’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP). On 23rd October 2025.

The agreement followed successful negotiations in Berlin between the Sierra Leonean delegation led by Kenye Barlay, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Patrick Kormawa, Director of Food Security at the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF).

Furthermore, the grant is expected to bolster Sierra Leone’s efforts to strengthen national health systems, expand access to clean energy, and promote sustainable economic growth.

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development described the deal as a significant step toward deepening cooperation with Germany and accelerating progress on national resilience and inclusive growth.

His involvement, according to officials, reflects his continued leadership in mobilizing international partnerships to advance Sierra Leone’s development priorities.

Finally, the initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to leverage global partnerships for sustainable development and improved service delivery across key sectors.
